Mia has been eagerly anticipating this day all weekend! This morning she woke up and came into the kitchen where we had decorated the table for Valentine's....she had cards, chocolates, etc. I showed her a box of chocolates I had given her, there were only 3 inside it. The first thing she said after seeing all this was, "Mommy do you get something special?" All this candy! All these cards! And her one concern was for someone else! We read her the cards and showered her with love...then came the unexpected. She opened up her box of chocolates and gave one to Daddy and one to Mommy and one to herself. The box was empty now. Daddy and I persisted, "Mia, you are so sweet! We want you to have these chocolates though." But our 4 year-old came back with "But I am giving them to you. I want you to have them, I love you!"
How is it that she understands "it is better to give than to receive"? That her joy came not from receiving, but from caring for others...Thank you Jesus for giving our daughter such a compassionate heart. May we be examples to our children of selfless love and joy not tied to material things.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Child like faith. It seems so hard, but yet so easy.
